How is healthcare free in Canada, and why isn't it in the US?

Canada's healthcare system is unique in that it offers free healthcare to all its citizens. The system is funded by taxes, so all Canadians are able to benefit from the same level of care regardless of their ability to pay. In the US, healthcare is not free and citizens must pay for health insurance or out-of-pocket expenses. This is largely due to the fact that healthcare is seen as a commodity, with individuals having to purchase the care they need. As a result, many Americans lack access to quality healthcare due to cost.
